In addition to dog-proofing your home, you'll want to create a soothing, pleasant environment to welcome your new best friend. Set up a crate for your dog in a quiet but well-used area and provide plenty of chew toys. If you can swing it, it's a good idea to bring your new pup home on a Friday and take a couple of days off work the following week. That way you can practice getting your dog used to your absence and establish some household rules and routines.
